Five huge new gantry cranes will arrive at the Port of Virginia Thursday morning.
A Port of Virginia spokesman says the enormous RTGs or rubber-tire gantry cranes are arriving from the Port of Illichivsk in Odessa, Ukraine. The first will stay at Virginia International Gateway. Three will be delivered to the Norfolk International Terminal tomorrow. The remaining one will go to the Port of Richmond along the James River.
The cranes will help crews load and unload more cargo onto ships and railways. The Port of Virginia sent us a example of what the cranes look like. A spokesman says the cranes are “lightly used and in good condition.” Getting them used helps the port save money on what would have been an expensive custom-made order.
