Liebherr’s EC-B flat-top tower crane range has received its Hong Kong debut. A pair of 380 EC-B 16 Litronic flat-top models have been put to work at Hong Kong International Airport.
The cranes, which have been enlisted by Gammon Construction for the airport’s $800mn Midfield Concourse project, were selected because of their heavy lifting ability, and the requirement for a long reach.
“This is the Hong Kong debut for the EC-B,” commented William Tang, sales manager at Liebherr’s Hong Kong distributor, Shiro Machinery, the company that supplied the units to Gammon.
“The cranes are being used mainly for lifting steel structural frame elements and beams. The loads will weigh up to 12 tonnes or more, and the specifications for the EC-B16 are such that the two cranes will be handling all the primary lift requirements on the steel structure,” he added.
The 380 EC-B 16 Litronic model can lift a maximum load of 16 tonnes, and can lift 3.4 tonnes at a jib length of 75m.
Both of Gammon’s cranes are based on Liebherr’s slim 355/380 IC tower system, which is designed for narrow sites with floor climbing requirements.
Contract P533 of the Midfield Concourse project represents Gammon’s largest solo endeavour to date. The multi-level building, which will increase the total number of passenger aircraft stands at Hong Kong International, will feature a large, open-span steel truss roof, and high standard internal finishes.
Gammon is scheduled to complete its work on the project in September 2015.
